Brian Van Horn's Biography
Brian was hired as Director of Operations for the Town of Manchester Parks & Recreation Department in April 2019. He is responsible for managing the day-to-day operation and maintenance of a Town Parks and Recreation Department and its facilities, facility scheduling, special event development and management and events at Applejack Stadium. Prior to taking this position, Brian had been in golf course management and maintenance since 1997. During this time, he was an Assistant Superintendent at high-end, private golf clubs across the country including the world-renown Pine Valley Golf Club in New Jersey, The Club at Hokulia’ in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii and The Vineyard Golf Club on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. He most recently was a member of the greens staff at the Ekwanok Country Club here in Manchester.
Brian earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Vermont’s School of Natural Resources in Private Recreation Management and Tourism Planning in 1998. He then went on to study turfgrass science at Rutgers Professional Golf Course Turf Management School in New Brunswick, New Jersey, graduating summa cum laude from the program in 2001.
Brian grew up in New Jersey before moving to Winhall, Vermont in 1988, and attended MEMS and Burr & Burton Academy. He returned to Manchester in 2011 with his wife, Lisa, two sons Ethan and Kai, and their dog, Ozzy. Brian is a board member and coach for the Equinox Valley Football Club, coaches for Manchester Youth Baseball and volunteers with the Four Winds Nature Institute at MEMS.
