Anita's Biography

Anita Sheldon was appointed interim Town Clerk in June of 2014 and subsequently elected to the position in March of 2015 after serving as Assistant Town Clerk since September 2009. 

Anita grew up in Manchester attending Manchester Elementary Middle School and Burr and Burton Academy. She attended Western New England College before transferring back to Vermont, earning an Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the Community College of Vermont. Anita resides in Manchester with her family.

Anita earned the designation of Certified Vermont Clerk (CVC) in September 2016 and her Vermont Certified Clerk Advanced Level 1 in August 2024 from the Vermont Municipal Clerks' and Treasurers' Association (VMCTA). In June 2020, Anita earned the designation of Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) and earned the designation of Master Municipal Clerk (MMC), which is awarded by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC), Inc. IIMC grants the MMC designation only to municipal clerks who complete demanding education requirements; and have a record of significant contributions to their local government, community and state.

Anita is a past member-at-large for the New England Association of City and Town Clerk Executive Board, a past member of the Vermont Municipal Clerks and Treasurers Association Fee Review Committee and a past member-at-large for the Vermont Municipal Clerks' and Treasurers' Association. She is a 2022  graduate of the New England Municipal Clerks Institute and has attended the New England Municipal Clerks Academy since 2023.

Anita looks forward to serving on the  Vermont Town Clerk Advisory Committee beginning in January 2025.
